1ST PAT-RN’s story began with a very clear idea, that of reinterpreting the classic blazer using the comfort and elegance of knit fabrics. In this sense, we were the first to introduce a sophisticated version of the knit “Ivy” blazer at the 83rd edition of Pitti Uomo.

During a trip to Tokyo, Cristiano Berto had the opportunity to visit Maruwa Textile Industries Co. Ltd., a pioneering company in the applied research of knit products based on extremely advanced pattern-making that revolutionizes the concept of fit.

Maruwa with his brand INDUSTYLE did not only invent 4DM (the Fourth Dimension Motion System) that delivers an exceptional fit and movement on the armhole that offers incredible comfort, yet also experiments with the 4DM system in space, in collaboration with JAXA (the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency).
This special pattern-making system was tested by a Japanese astronaut to improve the performance of Intra-Vehicular Activity (IVA) and was then applied to a series of civilian products, such as jackets, shirts, and suits.

After Cristiano Berto enquired about creating a completely new-concept blazer, the CEO of Maruwa, Takao Fukasawa, offered to collaborate, and together with Maruwa’s pattern maker and product staff they got to work updating the fit, its construction, the fabric, and the details of the classic “Vittorio Veneto” blazer, the icon of the first 1ST PAT-RN collection.

This is how the first 4DM “Ivy” Navy Blazer was created by 1ST PAT-RN

Made with a new knit fabric developed by the Numajiri Textile Laboratory in Tokyo, which features an extremely compact jersey structure that is suitable for all seasons – known as “high-density” jersey – the blazer also features a complete reconstruction of its interior and uses advanced stitches (4DS) invented by Maruwa to reduce the thickness of the seams. The result reflects the traditional Vittorio Veneto style, inspired by the classic dark blue blazer from Ivy League tradition and the official uniforms of the Italian Navy, updated in a new version that represents the creative journey of 1ST PAT-RN for the SS19 season.
